Flogging a Dead Horse

Kate Thompson wrote a book.
No publisher wanted it because it was no good.
You might remember that Kate was Terry Killeen in Glenroe - the trollop who had a fling with Dick Moran who was married to Mary who was Biddy’s mother. Kate talks posh Anglo-Irish ascendency like.
Because no publisher would take the book, she decided to publish it on-line. The first two chapters are free to view. If you want to read the clandestine bits, you have to pay her and she will post them out to you. I paid her not to. Podge and Rodge bought two so far.
I’m writing a Chick-Lit novel, as I speak. First of all, I have to get rid of my spell checker and my grammar checker on my computer. Does anyone know how to do that?
It’s going to be a best seller. Just for spite, I’m not giving it to any publisher. I’m going to sell it on eBay.
They owe me one!
Please! No chick-lit! I could write that kind of faeces with my eyes closed - and I’m a guy! Try something more challenging, you’ve got it in you!
Though you could get a lucrative deal spouting nonsense to the Indo, just like Martina Devlin.
Indeed - we must have seen the same interview on the telly a few days ago with Kate Thompson. It’s a clever idea publishing little tempters online.
I noticed one of the authors you like is Fay Weldon. Didn’t she write The She Devil from which the BBC did a TV series in in 1980s? I loved that so much at the time that I bought the DVD of the series on Amazon last Christmas. It’s brilliant.
Good luck with the writing. I started a novel but it might just end up as a short story - I haven’t the time!
Dario - I think Martina Devlin is a good writer.
She may be a moderately good writer, but when did people ask for her story on her difficulties getting pregnant in the Indo?
At the risk of sounding insensitive, she should writean autobiography for that kind of stuff.
Okay, I must have missed that one. I’ve read maybe about 70% of her articles. She wrote well on caring for old folk and a few other areas which I can’t recall right now.
Too late Dario. I’ve already written it. It took a long time to write. It must have taken ten minutes.
It is an overnight success. They want to make it into a film. It’s a lovely little story.
It’s about love, desire, passion, witchcraft, devil worship, animal sacrifices, cannibalism, homophobia, arachniphobia, agoraphobia and macramĂ©. It’s called “Last Chance Sa LĂșn”.
John. We loved the She Devil. Brilliant film. Brilliant music too. We watched it at least twice, but we must get the DVD.
Yes. There was also a USA version with Roseanne Barr but it can’t be as good as the BBC version. I agree on the music too, it’s superb. It’s on two DVDs and available from Amazon. Actually it’s also kinda retro to watch it now with the 80’s look.
We saw the US version. It was rubbish by comparison.
[...] I have been reading Granny Lost The Plot. [...]
Ah! no fair on the poor chick lit. 100k words is a challenge in itself and then you have to consider character development, plot, dialogue etc.
I know it’s fun to slag off and it’s one of those things that everyone things they can do better yet strangely no one does.
Why would we want to?
If I could write a book. it would have to be a really good book - loads of big worms and prose like Milton
Oh well you can borrow my PC which obviously doesn’t have spell check or grammar and neither do I. Meant “thinks” in above comment.
